RANCHO SANTA FE — Lois Jones will serve as president of the Association for 2008-2009. Tim Sullivan will be the next vice president and Bill Beckman will serve as treasurer.
At the June 19 Association board meeting, Covenant Manager Pete Smith asked for nominations and Director Kim Higgins nominated a slate of officers for the key positions. The board voted unanimously in favor of the suggested slate.
Jones will replace current President Marie Addario, who is leaving the board after her three-year term of service. Current Vice President Bob Spears is also leaving the board. New board members Deb Plummer and Tom Lang began their three-year terms July 1.
Jones, who was in Hawaii on vacation when she was elected, was delighted. “I have big shoes to fill, but I look forward to it,” she said via a telephone conference call. Jones began her three-year term as board director in 2007. Prior to that she had served on several Association committees.
In other Association news, Covenant Administrator Ivan Holler met with officials from the County’s Department of Public Works to prioritize the roads in the Covenant that need to be resurfaced. Public roads in the Ranch are under the county’s jurisdiction and the county allocates the monies required for road maintenance. There were concerns that road repairs and resurfacing projects may be at the whim of the county with little input from the Ranch. “But they are very willing to work with us,” Holler said. He will work with the Road and Traffic Committee to prioritize the roads that most need maintenance upkeep.
Addario asked if private roads could be included. Holler said that they can, but the assessment must be paid for by the owners sharing access to the private road. It was suggested that perhaps a memorandum be sent to residents who might be interested in this information.
Also, the Rancho Santa Fe Association Update Committee recommended an approval for the proposed revisions for Chapter 45: Tennis Court and Recreation Area Regulation.
In the past, guidelines for building tennis courts on properties were questionable at best. After meetings with the Association counsel, staff, the Art Jury and pertinent Association committees, Chapter 45 was reviewed and revisions were made.
The proposed revisions will help guide both the Art Jury and the board when making decisions regarding the construction of tennis courts and recreation areas. When an application is received, the Art Jury will have adequate information to evaluate the application. The changes will also assist an applicant in knowing what the Art Jury is looking for when an application is submitted.
All these changes will help ensure that tennis courts and recreation areas are integrated into the community in an aesthetically pleasing manner and in keeping with the provisions and goals of the Covenant.
The board approved the text for Chapter 45 unanimously.
