Annual Dog Days of Summer event set in Cardiff
July 04, 2008
Love ‘em all, love em’ all, the long and the short and the tall ... canines that is and you will get a chance to do just that at the Cardiff 101 Chamber Dog Days of Summer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9. This popular family event, which started in the Headline Graphics parking lot, now spills out onto Aberdeen Avenue and is a day not to be missed. Vendors, children’s activities and beautiful silent auction gift baskets add to the enjoyment of dogs, dogs everywhere.

You may enter your dog in any of the contests, which are Dog-Owner Look Alike, Cutest Puppy, Best Dressed, Best Looking, Best Kisser, Best Dog Trick, Best Beachwear and Limbo Time, a contest is for both owner and dog to see how low they can go.

Art, pet merchandise and pet samples and nonprofit organizations are but a few of the booths that will be on hand to round out your day. Kiwanis Kid’s Corner will offer the Kiwi Jump, & Face Painting by Olga. From 10 to 10:30 a.m., Brady Fowler and his touring theater company will be on stage with Puppet Express in the children’s area.

Mark your calendars and for more information e-mail info@cardiffdogdaysofsummer.com or visit www.cardiffbythesea.org and click on Dog Days link.

Come early to have donuts and coffee at VG’s Donuts to start the day and when ready, enjoy lunch at one of the near by restaurants: Besta Wan Pizza, Beach City Café or take a short walk to Trattoria Positano, Subway, Pipes or the deli at Cardiff Seaside Market — all places to satisfy your hunger pangs.

In 2006, when Chamber Director Teresa Barth brought the idea of a Dog Days event back from a mainstreet convention, it made us all wonder, but after a bit of head shaking and considering the fact that since almost everyone in Cardiff-by-the-Sea has a dog, we thought perhaps getting them all together would be fun. From a successful beginning it has grown year by year and just lets us all know that dog-friendly Cardiff-by-the-Sea is a “furry” nice place to call home.
