CARLSBAD — Several area families enjoyed one last night of summer vacation at the city’s annual Snores and S’mores family campout Aug. 16.

More than 200 family members of all ages pitched tents and enjoyed sleeping under the stars at Stagecoach Park. But not before having a barbecue, watching a movie and cooking s’mores over a bonfire.

The best part, participants said, was that the city did all the work.

The city sponsors the event each year, which rotates from park to park, Rachael Shay, recreation supervisor for the city of Carlsbad, said. Last year the event was held at Calaveras Hills Park.

The theme changes every year too, she said. This year, pirates were the theme. Campers participated in games and a scavenger hunt with pirate theme prizes.
