CARLSBAD — The Carlsbad City Library Learning Center celebrated its grand opening Aug. 23. The new facility, located at 3386 Eureka Place, unites two longtime library services — the Adult Learning Program and the Centro de Informacion.
The Adult Learning Program promotes literacy by providing free tutoring for students of all ages. Since 1984, the program has helped hundreds of adults improve basic reading, writing and computer skills. The Centro de Informacion is a bilingual program that has provided library and information services as well as programming in both English and Spanish since 1991.
The need for a new library arose in 2001 when the Centro de Informacion’s temporary residence at Pine Elementary was torn down. After being forced to move seven times, the library board of trustees decided to create a permanent home for Centro de Informacion, as well as the Adult Learning Center, and continue its commitment to lifelong learning as a community value.
“The Carlsbad City Library Learning Center is unique in that it combines our traditional bilingual and adult learning programs into a focused learning environment, (equipped to) meet each individual wherever they are in their learning journey and provide focused one on one assistance,” Library Director Heather Pizzuto said.
The library opened for business Aug. 25. For more information, visit www.carlsbadlibrary .org.
