SAN MARCOS — Classic cars, live music and vendors as far as the eye could see drew thousands out for the Grand Summer Festival on Aug. 31.
More than 300 shops and organizations lined Via Vera Cruz from Grand Avenue to San Marcos Boulevard. Several stages offered a host of bands playing a range of music styles, and the Beer Garden offered fare from local microbreweries as well as local eateries. There was also a midway for the children, which included merry-go-rounds, a bounce house and a tilt-a-whirl.
The crowds got bigger as the day went on despite the warm temperatures. Joanie Priest, interim CEO for the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, said the number of attendees was roughly the same as at last year’s event though hard numbers were, as yet, unavailable.
“It’s a good turnout,” she said. “The day is great.”
San Marcos holds seasonal celebrations on the last Sunday of every August and the first Sunday in April.
